Ransomware

This is one of the most perfidious malware varieties there are. Ransomware is used to blackmail the users of infected computers. Typically, your computer will be blocked, data encrypted or deleted, and ransom demands made. Criminals try to make money this way.

Rootkit

This is a software aiming to hide certain files, folders, processes or system entries from users and often also from your security software (anti-virus software). A rootkit in itself is not actually «harmful», but an indication that malware is present on a computer.
